Happiness Within

it's not tangible
nor can it be measured
by what is grasped in the confines
of the mind, for it extends,
expands by the openness of the heart

a defining moment
on a summer afternoon
before the leaves start changing
too soon, basking in all that's green
and the last of the blooms

it's here, right now
for the taking, the making
not in the what if's and if only's
but in the quiet acceptance
of what is

What a glorious summer afternoon by the lake ~ all is still green and in bloom and bees are happily buzzing around. Enjoy my poem and photos and have a great weekend! xx

    1. Yes, but it was more than that ~ a metaphor for living in the moment and accepting what is ~ to me happiness comes from within, rather than waiting for outside circumstances to change to be happy. Often times we ponder "what if" or "if only" dwelling on regrets or what could be, and we miss the beauty of just being and enjoying what we already have. That is my philosophy :)

  9. I think that it's so much easier to seize the day now - as we know that darker times are upon us. The real challenge is to stay in the moment a rainy day in November.. Wonderful images anyway.

    1. Yes, it's more challenging in darker times, both literally & figuratively ~ but I think inner strength and a positive attitude can get us through it :)

  16. How beautiful these pictures, the afternoon and the revelation it brings of the intangible, in that moment of discovery when the mind stills and all else opens. I shall keep this poem. Thank you.

  20. Lovely poem, the what if's and if only's can so easily spoil the present moment, which should be cherished and enjoyed.

  21. You have captured the very definition of happiness in such a lovely way! Beautiful photos, too. I have a shrub like the last photo blooming now, but don't know it's name. The bees love it. Hope your week is lovely. xo Karen

  23. Adore the images mixed with the verse...indeed happiness is not tangible or measured but it just is....our summer is fleeting here sadly....but I will still be happy for having lived it.
