Upon a Rock

I rest
upon this rock
where all is silent
but for the sound of waves
against white sand
where all is resilient
the horizon is mine
as I spread my wings
unbound
free from captivity
of broken dreams
I soar

It's almost summertime and I long for the beach. I took these photos by the Atlantic Ocean on the New England coastline. Rock formations there are so unique ... from small rocks on the beach to tall cliffs overlooking the ocean. Dreamy! And I love how the little bird blends in with the rock colors. Does anyone know that cute bird's name?

Rocks--a symbol of strength and resilience. My poem is in response to two challenges: at Poetry Jam, Peggy's prompt is on "rocks." At Poets United, Kim invites us to write a poem in the "quickest and simplest way possible." Enjoy my poem and photos!

  3. The ocean and the rocks have seen so many ship wrecks and events...witnesses of our history. We have stone on our property which still have the convict picks in it from early settlement.

    1. Grazie, Cara Rita. L'oceano Atlantico e' vasto e bello. Questo posto e' un po' lontano da me, circa 5 ore di macchina per arrivarci. Ma la spiaggia e' stupenda. Una bella estate anche a te! :)

  26. In Indonesia recently, I learnt why there were monkeys and birds on the Tree Of Life pictures. The monkeys symbolized greed, and birds, content.

Your poem reminded me of that, Loredana!

    1. It must be because they can fly that birds are so content! Thanks, Ninot! :)
