Rainy Day

on a rainy day,
a slice of sun in my tea cup-
warm thoughts of you
~ ~ ~
I have a love-hate relationship with the rain. I love the sound of the rain--it's so soothing, isn't it? Tapping on my window, making the grass green. When it rains, it's nice to cuddle up with a good book and a cup of tea, all cozy and warm inside on an Autumn day.

I like walking in the rain, too, except when it pours, my umbrella turns inside out in the stormy wind, and I get soaking wet. Yet, there is something romantic about the rain, especially on a cool evening, city lights reflected in the puddles, walking hand in hand with a loved one. Or on a country road, colorful leaves falling and whirling in the rain.

I took this photograph by my dining room window, as it rains outside in the field across the street. The grass is still green, and only a few leaves are starting to turn golden. The cup is special as it's hand painted by an artisan in Amalfi, Italy. The bright yellow color is so cheerful on a rainy day. And yes, a couple of cookies make it all better, too!

~ I hope you're enjoying Autumn as much as I am.~

  1. Looks like you live in a lovely area. I almost always enjoy the rain here--probably because it comes along so seldom. And it is what makes our hills so green in winter and spring here in S California. I love your lovely cup too. I like you haiku as well.

  6. What a delight. I love Autumn too, I like the sound of rain and also the stormy type. Dancing leaves, mushrooms and of course Chrysanthemums the flowers of Autumn. You have painted a wonderful picture about Autumn ... really I now cuddle up with my laptop and a warm cup of coffee (smiles) I am not such a tea lover.
The haiku is wonderful and gives me the same great feeling as you have written in your prose after the haiku. Thank you for sharing this wonderful post.

    Namaste

  7. I know what you mean, although this autumn we're certainly getting too much of the wet stuff to be able to properly appreciate it ;) That's a lovely teacup, just the thing to lift the mood!

  11. I think I have the same love/hate relationship with rain. It can be so refreshing but after a while, it makes me depressed. I absolutely LOVE the photo of your mug. We have a big pasta bowl that's handpainted similarly and I love looking at the bright colors.

  12. Oh yes, I have a love-hate relationship with rain too. I KNOW how important it is, how necessary. (We had a drought this summer.) Yet I hate how it can interfere with one's plans sometimes. I love the cup!

  15. I love the rain too unless it rains so much for people it ends up being destructive in flooding, but, I love everything about it. It's sounds, it's movements... Lovely post. :)
